COUNTY FORMATION

Minidoka County was created 28 Jan 1913, out of the eastern portion of Lincoln County. In the 1880's its area was part of Cassia County. Minidoka was named after the only settlement in the area, a railroad watering station. The name Minidoka is of Dakota Sioux origin meaning "a fountain or spring of water."

Rupert is the county seat.
